JOB DESCRIPTION:

An innovative leader in the development of new and advanced manufacturing equipment and techniques for both commercial and scientific applications is currently looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their engineering team in North Oxfordshire to support new and on-going projects in the UK. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of energy and enthusiasm with a passion for engineering design and problem solving. There will be good opportunity for the candidate to progress within the company, assuming more responsibility within the department and eventually progressing into a leading role on high profile projects. There will be occasions where the candidate will be expected to travel overseas in order to visit customers, suppliers and partners. Duties and Responsibilities: - Assist with the implementation of design and departmental working procedures within the mechanical design department. - Design, detail and assist with the build & installation of a range of mechanical items to include: o Precision machined components, assemblies and moving mechanisms. o Machine structures o Machine enclosures and covers involving sheet metal fabrications. o Material handling devices o Design and coordinate modifications to existing equipment as well as design of bespoke specialist machinery. - Deliver as part of a small team the full life cycle of a project to include: o Creation & maintenance of project design documentation to include product design specifications, bills of materials, input into project schedules, task lists & task planning etc… o Carry out and document appropriate calculations required for correct design and component selection. o Generate and present to colleagues and clients conceptual designs & ideas o Conduct design reviews with colleagues, manufacturers and customers. o Generate detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing & assembly drawings using Autodesk Inventor. o Liaise with purchasers, vendors & manufacturers throughout the design, procurement and manufacture cycle (involves overseas travel). o Raise internal purchase requests for components using internal MRP systems. o Hands on assembly, test and modification of designed equipment. o Assistance with the installation of equipment at customer sites if required. Desired Skills and Experience: - Minimum 5 years experience and a highly competent user of Autodesk Inventor or equivalent 3D design software is essential. - Minimum 5 years experience designing precision mechanical components, assemblies and machinery using a range of different and appropriate materials and manufacturing techniques. - Proven practical skills required for assembly of completed designs and use basic workshop equipment is essential.
