JOB DESCRIPTION:

This Support Worker role is for a company that provide community-based, specialised, health and social care support to people with particular needs, including physical, emotional, learning, behavioural, psychological and social difficulties. It s different, challenging and demanding yet immensely rewarding because the people they help are all different. No two have the same needs, difficulties and desires. This means you can really learn, develop your skills and stretch yourself. You will be required to support people with Learning Disabilities, Mental Health Difficulties, and Complex Needs to live independent lives in their community. The 1:1 support you will be providing will take place over weekdays, some weekends and with overnight stays over a 40 hour week. Key Responsibilities: Supporting independence and supporting each person in the home to stay healthy and safe. Supporting each person to make decisions and live an active, social life. Accompanying the person the company serve out into the community. Attending to Personal Care when needed. Helping people to improve their life skills and assisting with everyday needs. Treating everyone with dignity and respect. Safeguarding and maintaining confidentiality at all times. Key Skills and Experience required: Have knowledge, understanding and commitment to the seven outcomes for social care as set out in Independence, Wellbeing and Choice. Ability to interpret philosophy into practice. Be a positive role model/mentor at all times to people. Be able to encourage the people they serve to develop communication skills and make choices. Ability to be a keyworker for individuals. Ability to advocate for people within the home and in the community. Encourage and support self-advocacy skills in the client. Be able to listen the needs of the people we serve and looks for ways to provide solutions to achieve outcomes. Have a flexible approach to working and be able to work as an equal part of a team. Have a positive understanding and attitude of equality towards people with learning disabilities. Demonstrates the core principles & values of care. Respect people and staff confidentiality at all times. Have good communication skills including verbal and non-verbal and have positive interpersonal skills. Shows enthusiasm and drive. The ideal candidate will also have a willingness to attend staff meetings and in-house training where necessary and the willingness to work shifts including sleep-ins. It would also be desirable for candidates to have a full driving license.
