JOB DESCRIPTION:

SHOP MANAGER, KNOCKHOLT, KENT Our client,Coolings Green & Pleasant, is recruiting a shop manager in Knockholt, Kent for their unique hybrid of gift shop, garden centre, cafe and visitor attraction (nature trail), with a range of complementary businesses on site including aquatics, hot tubs, hard landscaping, tree surgery and arboriculture, plus a self-contained pre-school. Set in glorious Kentish countryside, yet within easy reach of central London (20 minutes by train), the shop is housed in an award-winning eco-building on the site of an old tree nursery. Turnover is currently £1.2m, with planned expansion to £2m within 3 years. This is a fantastic opportunity if you are looking for a new challenge in retail management. You will: Be responsible for ensuring a positive customer experience. Manage the smooth day-to-day running of the shop. Help maximising sales opportunities and improving shop profitability. Key aspects of this role will include: Managing the shop staff (currently 6 F/T and 12 P/T) Assisting the Directors with buying of products and services for the shop Seasonal planning for stock control, purchasing, merchandising, displays, etc. The role will also require input to the ongoing strategic development and success of the Company. You will have: A proven track record in retail management, including staff supervision. The highest level of people skills. The ability to read and understand a Balance Sheet and P&L accounts. Whilst previous experience within a family business is not essential, working within a small team with a diverse range of skills and experience requires patience, tact and diplomacy, together with a sense of humour.
