JOB DESCRIPTION:

Dog Carer / Dog Training Assistant This is a Domestic Position living as part of the family  OVERVIEW A Dog Carer is required to help with all aspects of dog care in our family home where they will assist with the day to day care of our family dogs including , most aspects of their training and welfare.  Our Dog Carers are part of a small family team and share in all aspects of our work and leisure activities they must be disciplined, presentable, sociable and flexible.  This position is residential and our dog carers have their own room in our home with all living expenses met.   The premises are strictly non-smoking. We also operate a busy, successful Dog Training Organisation and Canine Behavioural Consultancy,  Dog Carers have the opportunity to attend classes and consultations and become involved with our special events.   DUTIES In addition to the day to day care of our own dogs which includes helping with all aspects of their welfare such as exercise, food preparation,  feeding,  environmental maintenance, grooming and bathing they will also be expected to assist with assist with matings, whelpings, visits to the vet, receiving visitors, taking messages, enquiries and queries, helping to load and unload dogs safely into vehicles, administering medicines, supplements and prescribed drugs to dogs as directed, assisting with first aid and the treatment of minor wounds and ailments, care of elderly dogs, neonates and young puppies.  Dog carers, will have the opportunity to become involved with dog training (obedience and agility) and dog socialisation and are encouraged to participate in preparing young dogs and puppies for their KCGCDS tests at all levels. There is no kennel work involved and all our dogs live in the family home. HOURS 5 Days per week Daily hours are variable but do not exceed 40 hours per week between 07:00 – 22:00 with very occasional home sitting.   The role is well suited to applicants who will be living away from their family home for the first time and are looking for a position that offers independence within a safe host family environment. Many of our past Trainee Dog Trainers/ Dog Carers have take their time with us as an opportunity to take a “gap year” from the pressures of life and develop skills such as learning to drive, improving their technological knowledge and consider future opportunities. The role is a minimum of 1 year, subject to extension, our last four Trainee Dog Trainers/ Dog Carers have each remained with us for 2 1/2 - 3 years. Due the nature of this position applicants from outside the immediate area are preferred. We regret that we are unable to accommodate applicants own pets.
