Department Profile: The Finance Division reports to the Chief Financial Officer and consists of some 2,600 employees worldwide. Finance protects the Morgan Stanley franchise by serving as guardian of the Firm’s books and records, and by contributing to Firmwide risk management and risk reduction. This division maintains relationships with Morgan Stanley’s various industry and government regulators, and also serves as the conduit of financial information to the outside investment community. Finance plays a critical role as advisor to Morgan Stanley’s various businesses and its senior management team. Team Profile: The BRM Controller Team is part of the Global Funding Control (GFC) organization in London and Glasgow. GFC manages the Firm''s risk by implementing financial controls over its business activities. The team performs a financial control function over P&L and Balance Sheet generated daily by the Secured and Derivatives Funding trading desks. The team works closely with Business Unit, Operations and Finance counterparts globally to ensure that the P&L and Balance Sheet produced is a true reflection of the day’s trading activity. Every month end the team is responsible for validating the integrity of net revenue and balance sheet general ledger account balances. The team faces off with US and European businesses. Primary Responsibilities: • Prioritise Business Unit, team and internal client requests. • Oversight of daily PnL production. • Responsible for oversight of the month end P&L and Balance Sheet process. • Face off to the Business Unit - continue to enhance reporting, daily and month end processes and value add for the business. • A key contributor to many of the Firm’s CTB and RTB initiatives. This includes extensive involvement in remediation projects such as the firms Balance Sheet Optimisation being led by the Bank Resource Management Business unit and the build of a new financing calculator. • Daily contact and liaison with Finance, Operations and Business Unit counterparts globally. • Understand and be in control of the key risks. Identify control gaps. Enhance the quality and increase the scalability of existing controls. • Escalate appropriately risk issues as and when they arise. • Develop a broad understanding of the businesses and understand the Balance Sheet and P&L Drivers. Skills required: • Candidates should have a specific interest in financial services. • Product knowledge across a wide range of Equity and Fixed Income products. • A CFA qualification (or equivalent) is essential. • Good communication and analytical skills are essential. • Advanced Excel skills are desirable, intermediate essential. • High level of guardianship – the candidate should be very focused on guardianship and ensuring that exceptions are identified, resolved and escalated on a timely basis. • High level of organisational skills – ability to manage time effectively is essential. • Ability to manage own workload and carry out tasks with minimal manager guidance. • Ability to quickly understand and pick up issues. • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines. • Derivatives funding knowledge with r
