Postdoctoral fellow in Bioinformatic Type of employment: Fixed-term employment, 2 years Extent: 100 % Location: Institute of Biomedicine, Gothenburg First day of employment: As agreed Reference number: PER 2016/70 This is a 2 year post-doc position which is shared between professor Christina Jern’s stroke research group at the Institute of Biomedicine and Dr Marcela Dávila’s group at the Bioinformatics Core Facility. Subject area Bioinformatic Specific subject description Bioinformatics analysis of data generated from translational stroke research focusing on hemostasis and other genetic projects. Job assignments The Stroke research group is engaged in identifying novel risk factors and genetic mechanisms that increase the risk of developing a stroke, or suffering poor outcomes after stroke, see http://biomedicine.gu.se/ominst/avd/genetik/forskare/christina-jern . In this group you will work with an integrative sequencing project combining genotyping, expression and epigenetic data from human liver tissue, aimed at discovering new genes involved in regulating hemostasis (blood clotting) that may play a role in stroke. You will also participate in genome wide association studies and studies on rare variants in relation to stroke as well as intermediate phenotypes. In addition, you will have the opportunity to work with non-genetic risk factors, such as identification of novel biomarkers in an extensive, high-multiplex biomarker data set. Furthermore, you will be actively involved in coordinating studies with both national and international collaborators. In the Dávila''s group your work will focus on setting up graphical user interfaces (GUIs) to facilitate the integration and interpretation of different types of data. The liver project mentioned above will be the pilot study for setting up GUIs. We are now looking for an enthusiastic, highly-motivated, science-driven postdoctoral fellow to join our team and contribute to our research. Eligibility An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at University of Gothenburg. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application. The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance. Assessment The successful applicants will have a PhD in a subject of relevance to the position and strong publication records in peer reviewed journals. Qualifications and skills required: - You must have a PhD in Bioinformatics or equivalent. - You must be experienced in UNIX/Linux as well as in any established scripting language (perl, python, etc) - You must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills in English, and competence in scientific publication - You should be experience in annotation of genetic variants and setting up GUI’s - You should have experience in managing and analyzing large datasets - It is a qualification to have experience relat
