Postdoctoral fellow in bioinformatical studies of neruroblastoma Type of employment: Fixed-term employment, 2 years Extent: 100 % Location: Institute of Biomedicine, Gothenburg First day of employment: As agreed Reference number: PER 2016/137 This postdoctoral position is a part of the NNBCR consortium - Novel Neuroblastoma Biomarkers of Clinical Relevance (http://www.nnbcr.se). NNBCR is financed by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research. The overall aim of the project is to identify novel biomarkers and increase our understanding of the molecular basis of the childhood cancer neuroblastoma. NNBCR includes several research groups from the University of Gothenburg and Karolinska Institutet. Subject area bioinformatical studies of neruroblastoma Specific subject description The overall aim of the project is to identify novel biomarkers and increase our understanding of the molecular basis of neuroblastoma. Job assignments The project will involve analysis of whole-genome sequencing data from a large number of neuroblastoma tumors, including detection of somatic mutations and structural alterations. The successful applicant will also be responsible for computational infrastructure for sharing and visualization of data, as well as integrative analyses aimed at combining data from public sources and from the various efforts in the consortium. The work will be carried out in close contact with experimental researchers. Relevant recent publications include: Fredriksson et al, Nature Genetics 2014. Tang K-W et al, Nature Communications 2013; Akrami et al., PLoS One 2013; Jeggari A et al, Bioinformatics 2012; Hoell J, Larsson E et al, Nature Struct. Mol. Biol. 2011, Caren et al., PNAS 2010. The work will be performed in the research groups of Prof. Tommy Martinsson and Erik Larsson Lekholm, the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. Eligibility An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at Göteborg University. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application. The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance. Assessment Programming skills and linux/unix experience is a requirement, and knowledge of Matlab or R is desirable. Experience from relevant biological fields is desirable but not necessary. Previous experience with next-generation sequencing is recommended for this position. Excellent communicative skills are required, including fluency in oral and written English.
