ZAKRES PRACY:

DTU compute would like to invite applications for a 3-year PhD position starting 1 October 2015. BIOPRO and DTU Compute finance the project. The overall goal of the project is to have a solution where a NIR instrument user can operate a plant or a lab equipped with NIR instruments and with no or very limited efforts are used to maintain the calibration models. The driver behind the project is that companies would like to expand the use of NIR technology as the equipment is relatively inexpensive to purchase and easy / cheap to use. With NIR technology, companies can quickly verify the quality and the composition of the commodities in their production. And thus achieve significant production savings by adjusting and optimizing raw material composition as close to the production requirements as possible. The propagation of NIR technology is currently prevented as it is expensive and difficult for companies to maintain NIR instruments and the associated work tasks. NIR requires constant maintenance of calibration models to secure reliable analytic results.Companies with NIR technology currently have two options: 1.The company focus resources on NIR to monitor quality and raw material consumption. The consequence is that they spend a lot of money on specialists and control systems. 2.The company uses few resources on NIR to monitor quality and raw material consumption. The consequence is that they have large raw material / production costs. Project description Adoption of NIR technology can be viewed in two phases – acquiring and installation, operation and maintenance. In this project, we like to focus on increasing the benefits from operation and maintenance. 1.A basic result from the project is that calibration data is captured, stored, organized, and distributed in respect for downstream usage. 2.Based on 1. the project must deliver solid decision support based on computed models. The decision support can be key statistics, dashboard charts or other visualizations that give guidance to calibration data selection, data quality evaluation, selection of calibration models, and validation of model performance with designed test-sets that cover variation in product, instruments, site, time-period etc. 3.The next level is to automate the decision support. Here the decision support evolves into specific guidance. 4.Final stage is to provide automated calibration model optimization and eventually production optimization support. With NIR technology implemented along with automated calibration maintenance, companies can optimize product composition, implement rapid production adjustments, and eliminate dependencies of specialists. The chemometric models which are usually in play to model the NIR data will be combined with statistical process control techniques as well as machine learning prediction tools to handle the high dimensional, real time data flow and provide adequate decision support. Qualifications Candidates must have a master degree in mathematical modelling and computing. Preference will be given to candidates who can document knowledge of chemometrics, statistical process control as well as machine learning. Furthermore, good command of the English language is essential. However, most importantly the candidate must document a strong ability to achieve top results in a result-oriented and independent environment. Approval and Enrolment The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in the ITMAN Graduate School Programme of DTU Compute. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the DTU PhD Guide. Assessment The assessment of the applicants will be made by Associate Professor Line H. Clemmensen and Project Manager Jesper Bryde-Jacobsen, BIOPRO. We offer We offer an interesting and challenging job in an international environment focusing on education, research, public-sector consultancy and innovation, which contribute to enhancing the economy and improving social welfare. We strive for academic excellence, collegial respect and freedom tempered by responsibility. The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is a leading technical university in northern Europe and benchmarks with the best universities in the world. Salary and appointment terms The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. The period of employment is 3 years. Further Information Further information concerning the project can be obtained from Line H. Clemmensen and the BIOPRO project. Further information concerning the application is available at the DTU Compute PhD homepage or by contacting PhD coordinator Ulla Jensen +45 4525 3359. Application Please submit your online application no later than Thursday 24 September 2015. Applications must be submitted as one pdf file containing all materials to be given consideration.
