Aufgabenbereich:

University of the Arts Helsinki serves as a starting point for future artists and fosters the tradition of Finnish arts. The University provides society with life force, as well as new perspectives and ways of thinking. University of the Arts Helsinki-The Academy of Fine Arts, Sibelius Academy and Theatre Academy -is a diverse and vibrant community of education, research and arts. Presently, there are approximately 2,100 students and 700 full-time equivalent personnel. The MA in Ecology and Contemporary Performance (hereafter MAECP) is a two-year pilot of a master s degree programme, which studies questions in ecology and performance in the era of ecological crises through a multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach. It attempts to respond to the questions and needs raised by the current ecological situation, as well as the current shifts taking place in the field of performing arts. It aims to respond to the challenges brought about by ecological crises that implicate all species, from the perspective of relations and dependencies. MAECP investigates and renews the methodologies, practices and theoretical bases of contemporary performance while developing new forms of collaboration, interaction and knowledge production between the arts and the sciences, within a posthumanist framework. It encourages students to review and reformulate existing practices, to experiment with and invent new forms of performance-making and to maintain a degree of openness, not only towards various forms of art but also towards different fields and discourses. Lecturer of ecology and contemporary performance The Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki is recruiting a Lecturer in Ecology and Contemporary Performance for the new English-language master s programme, Ecology and Contemporary Performance, beginning in August 2016. The Lecturer in Ecology and Contemporary Performance will assume leadership of the master s programme and carry responsibility for its coordination. The Lecturer will plan, develop and evaluate the programme according to existing degree requirements. He or she will guide and evaluate theses and sit on the master s programme entrance examination board. The lecturer will participate in the Theatre Academy s administration and operations, while contributing to the development of the University of the Arts Helsinki. He or she will actively monitor the field of performing arts and engage in societal and international interaction. The tenure will run for two and a half years: 1 January 2016 to 31 July 2018. A successful candidate for a post of a lecturer in an artistic subject is required to have an applicable doctorate or a higher university (Master s) degree and/or artistic merits. A successful candidate is also required to have good teaching skills. The merits to be assessed in the selection process include the candidate s experience in the field to be taught. The University of the Arts Helsinki s administrative language is Finnish. The language of the master s programme is English. A high command of English is required in a successful candidate. Language requirements for the post abide by the Universities Act, Section 1, and the University of the Arts Helsinki s staff policy. Recognized additional merits: knowledge of ecology work experience in environmentally concerned fields extensive networks for performance studies, environmental sciences and performing arts, along with a strong research-oriented grasp in artistic work. The post s wage is set on level 7 of the Finnish universities salary system for teaching and research staff. The total monthly salary is from 4,200 to 4,900 euros depending on the individual performance level.
