Division Head (Senior Principal Scientist): A senior management position for a candidate with proven ability and post-doctoral experience leading a medium sized research group. Good research and development skills within the elastomeric materials field are required. In addition, knowledge of biological sciences would be advantageous. As part of the senior management team, the Division Head will share responsibility for the formulation and implementation of the research programme for a leading international Research Centre. Reporting to the Director of Research, the Division Head will have overall responsibility for the research and other project activities of the scientific staff in the three R&D Units within their Division. The Division Head will also develop new areas of work, identifying commercial opportunities and where appropriate, be responsible for initial drafting of patent applications for novel materials, processes or devices. Overseas travel during the year to attend meetings will be anticipated. Responsibilities: - All work within the Division - The development of new areas of work - Ensure effective collaboration and transfer of knowledge between Units - Ensure effective communication between Senior Management and staff - Deputise for the Director of Research when required - Present the outcome of R&D activities at conferences, to senior management, visitors and staff (reports, scientific / technical publications, promotional material) - Planning, budgeting and production of research and other ongoing work programmes - Prepare quotations and other consultancy / external contract documentation and to handle contracts - Participate in Management and other administrative meetings Skills & Experience: - Qualified to PhD level and proven experience as a manager of scientific staff and R&D activities, primarily within the polymeric materials sector - In-depth knowledge of project work - Good presentational and writing skills - Ability to solve problems and appreciation of scientific research and its commercial potential - Willingness to help, give advice and learn from colleagues - Motivation to produce results and to maintain and enhance an efficient working environment This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to join a globally recognised UK based international Research Centre offering exciting and challenging work and long term career prospects.
